MaxmakeLAB v0.9.18 Update: New CAM Features, Toolpath Simulation & G-code Export

We're excited to announce the release of MaxmakeLAB v0.9.18.

This update introduces a new set of built-in CAM features designed to make CNC job preparation more efficient. You can now configure your stock, manage cutting tools, create multiple toolpaths, preview machining with simulation, and export G-code directly from MaxmakeLAB.

Below is a detailed overview of the new features included in this release.

Stock Setup

The new Stock Setup feature allows you to define your stock before creating toolpaths.

Features

Set the stock dimensions (Length × Width × Height)
The machining start point is currently fixed at the top surface of the stock
Choose the work origin:
-
Center
-
Bottom-left corner
Set a safe clearance height for machining

Coming Soon

Support for using the bottom of the stock as the Z-zero reference.

Tool Library

The new Tool Library allows you to manage cutting tools and machining parameters in one place.

Tool Management

You can:

Create tool groups
Add new tools
Duplicate tools
Delete tools
Delete tool groups

Notes

Tool Library import and export are currently unavailable and will be fixed in a future update.
The current release supports the following tool types:

Tapered End Mill
-
V-Bit
Additional tool types will be added in future releases.
Only one material preset is currently available. More material presets will be added in future updates.

Profile Toolpath

The new Profile Toolpath creates machining paths from vector geometry.

Features

Generate Profile Toolpaths from vector objects
Set the machining depth
Machining start height will be added in a future update
Select tools from the Tool Library
Temporarily modify tool parameters without changing the original Tool Library settings
Choose the machining position:

Outside
-
On the Vector
-
Inside
Select either Climb Milling or Conventional Milling

Pocket Toolpath

The new Pocket Toolpath creates pocket machining paths from vector geometry.

Generate Pocket Toolpaths from vector objects
Set the machining depth
Machining start height will be added in a future update
Select tools from the Tool Library
Temporarily modify tool parameters without changing the original Tool Library settings

Relief Toolpath

The new Relief Toolpath creates relief machining paths from images.

Features

Generate Relief Toolpaths from images
Set the machining depth, which currently defines the relief height
Select tools from the Tool Library
Temporarily modify tool parameters without changing the original Tool Library settings
Roughing toolpaths are currently generated by offsetting from the image boundary by default

Notes

The current roughing strategy leaves a relatively large machining allowance.

For this reason, Relief Toolpaths are not recommended for hardwoods such as ebony at this time. This behavior will be optimized in a future update.

Toolpath Simulation

The new Simulation feature allows you to preview the machining process after generating toolpaths.

Features

Preview the machining simulation
Show or hide toolpaths
Adjust playback speed
Drag the timeline to quickly preview different stages of the machining process

Known Issue

When dragging the timeline, some toolpaths may not render correctly. This issue will be addressed in a future update.

G-code Export

After generating toolpaths, you can export them as NC-format G-code.

Features

Export generated toolpaths as NC files.
If the machine is connected and homed, the exported NC file can be imported directly into the machine.

Notes

Toolpaths are currently exported as separate operations. We recommend keeping the original order. This will be improved in a future update.
Generated G-code always includes the T*M6 tool change command. Before running the program, complete the tool change, perform tool length probing, set the work origin, and then start machining.
