[Project Recap] 5 Multi-Material CNC Toys to Spark Childhood Imagination! 🎁

Did you catch our fast-paced Children's Day video reel? We showed you the magic, and now we are giving you the blueprint! Here is the ultimate guide to machining Wood, Acrylic, and Aluminum on the MAXMAKE HiMill D1S.

When the precision of a desktop CNC machine meets the boundless imagination of childhood, what kind of sparks fly? If you saw our June 1st short video, you know exactly what we mean. Though the holiday has passed, creating unique, lasting memories for your kids never expires.

Today, we are sharing the complete project recap, Feeds & Speeds, and a step-by-step guide for the 5 custom gifts we made on the MAXMAKE HiMill D1S: The Kinetic Woodpecker, the Wooden Toy Sword, the Pony Desk Clock, the Acrylic Pen Holder, and the Aluminum Pet Tag. Let's turn raw materials into their new favorite treasures!

🎨 I. Creative Design & Material Prep

Before making chips fly, selecting the right materials and designing safe, vibrant models is crucial for children's toys.

Design Logic:

Woodpecker & Toy Sword: Warm, natural wood with rounded edges and cute proportions for safety and classic playability.
Pony Desk Clock: Combining a playful pony shape with a functional clock mechanism to help kids learn time management.
Acrylic Pen Holder: Utilizing the transparent and colorful nature of acrylic to design a vibrant, minimalist desk accessory.
Custom Pet Tag: A compact, precision-engraved aluminum tag that acts as a unique "ID" for their furry friends.

Materials List (BOM):

Wood: Beech Wood, Basswood, and Sandalwood (For the Woodpecker, Sword, and Clock).
Plastics: Acrylic Sheets (For the Pen Holder).
Metals: Aluminum Alloy Blank (For the Dog Name Tag).
Accessories: Clock mechanism, safe acrylic paints, sandpaper, polishing pads.

🛠️ III. Machining & Post-Processing

Machining Process

1.
Workholding: Select the appropriate fixture (clamps, double-sided tape, etc.) based on the material and shape to ensure absolute stability during milling.
2.
Zeroing & Test Cut: Always verify your toolpaths and parameters with an air cut or test cut before starting the final job.
3.
Batch Machining: Once confirmed, run the G-code and let the HiMill D1S automatically execute the roughing and finishing passes for all parts.

Post-Processing & Assembly

1.
Deburring & Sanding: Carefully sand all surfaces and edges with varying grits of sandpaper (from 400 to 2000) until they are silky smooth and safe for kids.
2.
Painting: This is where the magic happens! Use eco-friendly, child-safe paints to add vibrant colors to the Woodpecker and Pony.
3.
Polishing: Buff the acrylic and metal components until they achieve a high-gloss, premium finish.
4.
Final Assembly: Install the clock hands and mechanism into the Pony, and assemble the other pieces to complete the projects.
